The cement tile was born in Viviers en Ardèche in the late nineteenth century. Since 1932, Cimenterie de la Tour has decided to continue the tradition by opening its own workshop to manufacture hydraulic tiles. Cement tiles are always installed in homes. Whether patterned or plain, in small formats, tiles or hexagonal, they can imagine on the floor and even on the walls.
Authentic cement tile
Conventional cement tiles are often colored with warm hues such as red or yellow. Also, we found green that recalled a Provencal spirit. In the past, they were mainly laid in halls and kitchens. Also, for an older look, we recommend adding borders to create a decorative rug.
Depending on the size of the room, its decoration and the height of the ceilings, the format and color will be to think. The most viewed form in the old houses was the hexagon in 10 cm format. Also, brick red and white have been particularly requested. We also found formats less seen today as the 15 x 15 cm surrounded by borders. Also, mainly on kitchen floors, we often found real cement tiles united in checkerboard. The black and white checkers were the most popular at the time.
